April 5th Live Sunday Workshop

March 30, 2020 By Tim

Topic: Tooling for Digital Woodworkers

With the wide range of tooling available, woodworkers that use CNC are understandably confused by all the choices in bits and mills you have to choose from. In the Live Sunday Workshop, I’ll explain the basic theories and help you choose a set of bits and mills that work best for cutting wood.

The April 5th Live Sunday Workshop begins at 1 pm PDT (8 pm UDT)

Follow the link below approximately 10 minute before the event to get logged into the Zoom meeting. Once you’re online, make sure you mute video and audio on your end and click the chat button so that you can ask questions during the workshop.

March 29th Live Sunday Workshop Follow Up

March 29, 2020 By Tim

This afternoon we held the first woodworking.digital Live Sunday Workshop. These live events will be every other week at 1pm PDT (8 pm UDT. Today’s Topic was Optomize Your CNC for Digital Woodworking. For those that weren’t able to attend, here’s a link to the recorded Sunday Workshop. It will only be available for one week.

Near the end of the broadcast, I mentioned that I’ve been testing and 3D printing face shields with the idea of making them for local medical and fire departments should they need them. If you have a 3D printer, I encourge you to investigate and consider contributing shields to your local community.

Earlier in the video, I mentioned the builder of my custom CNC. His name is Carl Bruce. He lives in Bremerton, WA and has built well over a 100 custom CNCs. Besides custom machines like mine, he’s developed a stock machine that’s delivered in a quick and easy to assemble kit form. If you’re interested in contacting to find out more call him, here.

Here are the two models that I like best…

woodworking.digital live events coming soon

March 22, 2020 By Tim

Recently, a lot of things have changed in all of our lives. With concerns about the COVID-19 virus, a lot of us now spend much of our time at home. Besides the needed focus on everyone’s personal safety, there is also the opportunity to spend more time in our shops doing the things we enjoy. While visiting a hardwood supplier this week, it wasn’t hard to notice the increase in customers standing in line stocking up on materials

Like many instructors, my woodworking classes have been canceled for the year until further notice including my digital woodworking classes at The Marc Adam’s School of Woodworking. But, there are other ways to share and learn about woodworking.

For a long time, I’ve wanted to do stream casts on YouTube. But, due to the lack of bandwidth where I live, this isn’t practical. One of my complaints about stream casts is they are mostly a one-way street. Viewers can send real-time comments but can’t interact via voice or video. But, there is a way…

Starting next week, I’ll begin regular live interactive broadcasts from my shop using Zoom. The focus, of course, will be on woodworking. Specifically, on getting the best out of digital tools and learning advanced woodworking techniques. I’m running tests this week to work out the bugs. Stay tuned for more details.

Play smart. Play safe.
